Iranian director Jafar Panahi claims that his latest documentary is “not a film.” Well, if he says so. Who are we to debate with this man on his own creative endeavour?
This is Not a Film certainly doesn’t abide by standard filmic traits, even those of a documentary, so it could definitely be argued that Panahi’s title is on point. And just to further prove his point, Panahi and co-director Mojbata Mirtahmasb made it on a digital camcorder (and at one stage an iPhone.) It really isn’t a film at all!
