In this project I attempt to review the entire Scream trilogy scene by scene in chronological order. Heavy spoilers and gore throughout!
SCENE 4
Length: 15secs
Primary Characters: Sidney Prescott and Mrs Tate (Lois Saunders)
Pop Culture References:
- None - it's 15 seconds long! It'd be impressive if there were any, although curiously Jamie Lee Curtis' character in Halloween H20 is a school principal called Keri Tate. No, that wasn't that curious, actually.
This shot always makes me wonder what Scream would have been like if Drew Barrymore had have actually taken the lead role like she was originally offered. This shot makes me wonder what Barrymore would have looked like in this classroom, sitting there with her blonde bob. I always thought she'd look too old (I think it's the hair), but she's only two years older than Neve Campbell who plays Sidney and she seems to fit into the look of the film quite easily.
"Sidney, it would appear to be your turn."
This is Mrs Tate, aka the frumpiest, dowdiest teacher known to man (outside of a comedy, of course). Poor lonely (I assume) Mrs Tate.
Man, that was a short scene, wasn't it?

Short, but love that you kept to your "scene-by-scene" promise! :)
Its little things like this that make Scream great. Just a quick cut to an empty chair and you know Sidney must know Casey somewhat if she sat next to her...
After thefirst 2 of these I went back and watch both 1 and 2 over the weekend. Number 3 tonight! haha
Can't wait for your look at the first "Sidney vs. killer" scene and of course famous "I'll send you a copy". Classic!
PS. In some way I can't wait for Scream 4, but I feel it would be bad. A really bad movie.
I hate to nitpick, you're doing a good job, but Drew Barrymore is actually a year younger than Neve Campbell, not older.
Anon, right you are. The site I was looking at clearly has Barrymore's birthday wrong. Hmmm.
Nevertheless, the point still stands. I can't picture Barrymore as she is in the first scene in that classroom. She'd look so out of place. But, that's not really a negative, just an observation.
This project of yours is brilliant. It's the detail in such short scenes that makes SCREAM so powerful. Neve Campbelle is great in this small scene.

I always try to see what's written on the chalkboards. It's really hard to tell. Usually, when there's a scene in a classroom in a horrorfilm, there's also something to learn for the audience.
