The First Great Posters of 2010

Some amazing posters have come out way in only the first three weeks of the year decade, which bodes well for the rest of the year. Here's hoping the interesting designs can keep up and that at least a bunch of them will be seen again ten years from now.

This movie, No Matter What, doesn't even appear on IMDb so I haven't the foggiest idea as to what it's about, but the poster gives is a sort of Gus Van Sant disaffected skater teen sorta vibe and that is always a vibe that I can groove on. Loving the muted colours that still manage to pop and the interesting visual design with the stripes and the title. And, honestly, who doesn't like the appearance of wear and tear on a poster?

I can almost tell that this poster for The Four-Faced Liar will appear on my top ten in 12 months. There is something so succinct and wonderfully simple about the whole thing, yet it doesn't resort to cliche designs and annoying arthouse motifs. Plus, that tagline is one for the books.

Deep red on black background will always get my attention, even more so with such a striking central image as a stone angel with the words "EVIL LIVES HERE" placed above. So provocative and has a creepy edge that gets under the skin. Even the font used on the title is nicely done. Not too obvious, but not bland.

Of course, some things never change. Things like OMGGIANTFLOATINGHEADS!!!AAAGH!!!

It's like their heads are going to TAKE OVER THE PLANET AND ENSLAVE US FOR ALL ETERNITY!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!

Absolutely love that gorgeous dramatic poster for the ""Red Riding" trilogy. In addition to just being wonderful design, it perfectly evokes the central mystery of the trilogy. Your description -- "creepy edge that gets under the skin" -- applies equally to the trilogy itself. Just a tiny correction though, that's not a "stone angel"!
