This Week on Australian Screens

Cinema Releases for the Week 01/10/09

Che: Part One & Che: Part Two - I'm not sure what's going on with the release of this film, but I think Part One is released this week and Part Two next week?

Mao's Last Dancer - Bruce Beresford directs this adaptation of the memoirs by Li Cunxin. Amongst it's cast are Joan Chen, Bruce Greenwood, Kyle McLachlan and Amanda Schull. It's a good movie and could be biggest Aussie film of the year if the marketing is anything to go by. I've been seeing posters and ads on TV for this all over the place. That's what having a company like Village Roadshow behind you can do.

DVD Releases for the Week 01/10/09

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past - One of many movies that Matthew Maconaughey can't stand up for marketing purposes. Very odd. And the movie looks very shit. No thanks!

Monsters vs Aliens - A Dreamworks animation title that doesn't look like complete dog shit! But, hey, I said that last year about Kung Fu Panda and that turned out badly.

Mutant Chronicles - So, it's meant to be X-Men meets Battle Royale? I'll pass.

Synecdoche, New York - Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Michelle Williams, Catherine Keener, Emily Watson, Samantha Morton, Dianne Wiest, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Lynn Cohen and Hope Davis. It's... good. That's about all I can say.

God, Monsters vs. Aliens makes Kung Fu Panda look like Pixar. Just sayin'.
