"But Mommy, I wanna be an actress NOW!"

I've always thought that there is a correlation between the quality of singers-turned-actors and their looks. If you're not traditionally pretty then it helps. Just look at Barbra Streisand, Cher and Bette Midler and you'll realise they're not going to be appearing in Ralph any time soon and yet they are some of the best actresses we have (or, had, since none of them seem to be interested in it anymore - sadface). And then take the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce or any number of blonde and bubbly pop stars (although Lopez did show promise early on *sigh*)

So it's with general non-interest that I read about Christina Aguilera's film debut. She will be starring in a movie called Burlesque in which she portrays a - wait for it - burlesque dancer! Shocking, I know. The link says it will be a musical though so there might be some promise... or it could just turn into Make it Happen. Hmmm. Maybe she can bring the good ol' assless chaps out of retirement for a spin? Here's hoping the director asks her to tone down the fake tan for the few months it'll take to film.

Bringing her class all the way to NYC!

Can't really call Jennifer Lopez a "singer-turned-actress" since she actually ndid her best screen work BEFORE the idea to release an album entered her pretty little head.

So she's actually an actress-turned-singer, and far worse off for it.

She showed promise and then became a singer and since then she's been very bland, but you are right. Silly me.

I think Beyonce is a pretty decent actress - not very talented, I agree, but so far she's never sucked. I don't think it's fair to expect her to become unrecognizable (at this point it would take something big to make people appreciate her work). Unlike some blonde and bubbly pop stars, she avoids "playing" boring, ridiculous, idealised versions of herself and she totally understands that she's not the only important thing about the film, which these bubbly pop stars never seem to get.
I was surprised that Aguilera didn't make a film so far and I think she might be a good actress (she's terrific or at least looks terrific in her videos), but "Burlesque"? She should definitely start with supporting roles. For this one, Razzie is coming.

Christina Aguilera is so fine!! just though I would add that in.

If a singer wants to get into action, or the other way around, I always think good for them, why not?

If they can do both successfully then good luck to them.
