Something that I love discovering from time to time are obscure songs from even obscurer 1980s movies. They're a riot, I tell ya! You cannot imagine the amount of times I've laughed uncontrollably listening to Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora's "When the Rain Begins to Fall" from 1984's Voyage of the Rock Aliens (#1 in Germany for four weeks!). Movies like Beat Street gave us plenty of obscure tracks like "Beat Street Breakdown" by Grandmaster Melle or "Beat Street Strut" by Juicy. What about "Light of Day" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts from the film of the same name or "Body and Soul" by Jo Kennedy from Starstruck?
My favourite, however, is the really quite amazing Cyndi Lauper track "Hole in My Heart (All the Way to China)" that appeared in the Lauper and Jeff Goldblum psychic film from 1988, Vibes. It's my understanding that a soundtrack was never actually released and the song wasn't available on any format until the 3-disc The Great Cyndi Lauper was released a few years back. The song is great and the clip is hilaaarious. The sort of clip only a song from the soundtrack to a 1980s comedy could produce. Enjoy.
