Gulpilil's Australia

As if it weren't already obvious - unless you're new to Stale Popcorn, in which case it will become readily apparent as the time goes on - Baz Luhrmann's outback epic Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, is my most anticipated 2008 release. I hope it remains a 2008 release, unlike Luhrmann's last film Moulin Rouge!, which was meant to be released in December 2000, but was moved to May 2001. I can't hold out much longer Mr Luhmann! Seven years between films is long enough!

Anyway, Moviehole (the great Australian bound movie website) has a new picture from the film, but it's not of either Kidman or Jackman, but of David Gulpilil. David is this countries most high profile indiginous actor. He won an AFI award in 2004 for his lead role in The Tracker and has been in other movies such as Walkabout, Storm Boy and Rabbit-Proof Fence. In Australia he even gets to sing! Apparently.

Acclaimed Australian actor David Gulpilil was released from the hospital where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. He is currently resting in Sydney as he prepares to complete work on Baz Luhrmann’s epic adventure “Australia” with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. Gulpilil will record additional dialogue and song for the film which is due to wrap principal photography at the end of this week. Gulpilil has taken care to ensure that the lung infection had cleared before attempting to record the new tracks.
