In the seemingly neverending tirade of critics associations putting in their two cents with their own awards - even though most groups seem to be awarding the same movies - there is one that I actually enjoy looking at, and that is the Allience of Women Film Journalists. "Why?" you may ask. Well, they're sort of like the MTV Movie Awards of the critics world.
Sure, they gave the Coen Bros' No Country for Old Men their best picture and director award, Julie Christie and Amy Ryan their actress prizes, Daniel Day Lewis and Tom Wilkinson (his first win, I believe) their actor honours, Juno their screenplay award and so on. But, they throw in some extras for a little fun, for some giggles, such as:
Actress Most In Need Of A New Agent:
Teehee, so true - The Reaping and Freedom Writers were both C- films for me.
Best Depiction Of Nudity or Sexuality:
Eastern Promises - Viggo Mortensen
Because he wrestled in the nude!!
Sequel That Shouldn’t Have Been Made Award:
Isn't that what I've been saying all along? They even gave a prize to Black Sheep! Check out the rest at their website.
