And They Say Eurovision Only Gave Us ABBA and Celine

I love Eurovision. Like, I love it with an R-rated passion. One of the things I love about Eurovision today is that many artists are singing the same sort of songs they were singing a decade ago. Take, for instance, Gina G - the Australian gal who represented the United Kingdom back in 1996 with her song "Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit", a song that was very much "of the time" (as they say) which came eighth in the contest, but ended up becoming a worldwide smash hit - even conquering the USA for brief moment in time (the rarest of feats for a Eurovision act, indeed). It would have a very hard time pushing it's way into the top 40 these days, yet competitors on Eurovision continue to sing songs of this same variety. Which isn't to say they should change - I'd die if every country submitted snooze-enducing indie rock outfits - but it's just that it'd be nice to see a Eurovision act take charge of the charts once again.

Anyway, here is Gina G's Eurovision performance, but the video clip for "Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit". It really is still quite amazing, isn't it?
