100 Greatest Movie Posters: #69 - Tootsie

Tootsie (1982)
Directed by Sydney Pollack
Poster Designed by Kaiser Communications
Film Nationality - USA
Poster Nationality - USA

I'm not going to discuss the poster for Tootsie that much other than saying this design is better than the international "See! It's Dustin Hoffman!! See!!!" version seen here. But I would like to wonder what on earth happened to Kaiser Communications. Judging by their IMP Profile they started out designing posters for Oscar-winning movies like Tootsie, Gandhi, Kiss of the Spider Woman plus ace posters like this shortlisted poster for Robert Altman's Short Cuts or this poster for Martin Scorsese's The King of Comedy, which in retrospect should have been on the countdown.

Yet looking at their post 2000 work there is a design for Steven Spielberg's AI, Steve Buscemi's Interview and an early one for Ghost Rider. Other than that it's all b-grade crappy films and direct-to-DVD titles. There's Zodiac (the're another one), Motocross Kids, The Legend of Johnny Lingo ("from the producer of Jurassic Park and Hook"!!), Man with the Screaming Brain, MVP2: Most Vertical Primate and so on. If you have heard of any of those movies then you're doing better than me.
